Get ready to spend a day in the woods of the Ruffed Grouse Capital
of the World with one of Ides Guides! Northern
Wisconsin boasts the largest ruffed grouse population in the
nation and Price County is located right in the center of
Wisconsin's northwoods with over 1.2 million acres of huntable
land available!
Operating since 1977, Ides Guides is the oldest guide service in the area hunting exclusively for ruffed grouse and woodcock. All of our guides are experienced ruffed grouse and woodcock hunters who hunt with their own dogs. These "grouse dogs" are raised and trained to handle the nervous, unpredictable "winged dynamite" of these north woods.
You are also welcome to bring your own dogs.
You will spend an entire day hunting in the woods. We will take you to proven grouse coverts which have been located and explored long before your arrival.
The current bag limit is five ruffed grouse and three woodcock. We break for a relaxed lunch, with our compliments. Your day will end with picture taking and a ride back to your accommodations. We will clean and freeze your birds and will gladly arrange for any taxidermy orders you may have with birds mounted in any specified pose.
Ruffed grouse and woodcock season generally opens mid-September,
and hunting is exceptional until early November. The weather is
very unpredictable, although it is normally, reasonably dry.
September usually has light frost at night and 60's during the
day. Average October weather has heavy frost at night with 50's,
maybe 60's during the day. Hunting can be good into November if we
don't get early snow storms!
